North of the Vanderbilt
Gate in Central Park
is a classical French garden.
At the center of the large oval in which it
resides is a fountain pool with "Three Dancing
Maidens," sculpted by Walter Schott.
Surrounding the Untermeyer Fountain, as it
is
known, are concentric geometric beds of flowers,
which offer the most extraordinary show of floral
excellence.
The spring and late summer offer the most
magnificent displays consisting of 20,000 tulips in the spring and 2,000 Korean
chrysanthemums in the fall.
