Facing the American Museum of Natural History and appropriately situated outside of Central Park
near Naturalists Gate, resides the bust of
Alexander von Humboldt.
This prominent German naturalist and explorer
made great contributions to physical geography
and biogeography.
He popularized science with his book Kosmos,
an ambitious undertaking that took him the last
25 years of his life to write. Spanning four
volumes it explores the structure of the universe.
