Hidden away inside a secluded sitting
area within Central Park stands the solitary
bronze figure of Albert Bertel Thorvaldsen.
This Danish sculptor who made his mark
as a prominent leader of the Neoclassical
period is portrayed holding a mallet in one
hand and chisel in the other as he leans on
the Statue of Hope.
This sculpture is a replica of Thorvaldsen "Leaning on the Statue of Hope," a marble
original by Bertel Thorvaldsen, 1839; in the
Thorvaldsen Museum, Copenhagen.
