This arch is the west side companion
to a monstrous granite transverse
arch on the east side of Central Park.
Both were built in the 1950s to accommodate
the east west passage of transverse
traffic with newly added access roads.
Devoid of the aesthetic complexity of
the Park's other arches the
West 65th Street Arch is valued for
its placement on the slope leading out
to the 65th Street entrance.
