South of the Dairy and overlooking
the Wollman Rink is a sizable
outcropping dubbed Cat Rock.
This Central Park rock formation offers a
spectacular view west of the
City skyline.
Many trees crown this rock as
they squeeze their trunks through
the stones crevices. Avid rock
climbers easily race their way to the
top while beginners usually take the
easy way up and use the stairs that
are chiseled into the rock.
These steps connect directly to the
East Drive making the journey to
the other side of the rock effortless.
Cat Rock has become a haven for
people watchers and sunbathers
and is dotted with bodies on those
special warm spring or summer days.
