The southern most end of the Dene is a field
that flourishes in the spring with Magnolia and
Kwanzan Cherry and Azaleas.
The Dene which is a term meaning "valley" extends from East 66th Street to
East 72nd Street and is the fulfillment of a
design conceived by Central Park designer
Frederick Olmsted. With its rolling hills
and valleys and winding walkways it
provides park visitors with a serene setting
for a leisurely stroll or a place to relax on the
hillside beneath the Dene Shelter.
At its northernmost boundary is theEast Green, a flat lawn with many varieties
of blooming trees.
