[Unveiled 1885] Sculptor: John Quincy Adams Ward
1830-1910 USA
Gift of The New England Society
On the top of a sloped knoll leading to
the Conservatory Water, stands the
bronze statue of The Pilgrim, a leading
resident of Central Park.
This hill is named Pilgrim Hill after the
symbolic figure who commemorates
the landing of the Pilgrims at Plymouth
Rock. Mounted on a pedestal styled by
Richard Morris Hunt, he is shown in his
customary attire with a rifle by his side.
