At the center of Central Park from 80th
to 86th Street is a great oval lawn with
a carpet of lush green grass and eight
ball fields.
In the autumn two fields of the
Great Lawn, seven and eight cin the
northern end of the Lawn are onverted
to soccer fields for use exclusively by
young children.
The two fields are usually divided in
their use into one that is used for girls
teams and one for boys. With their parents
on the sidelines these tiny kids display
the kind of fervor for the game displayed
in the North Meadow by their older
counterparts.
