The Rumsey Playfield in Central Park is a sporting area for most of the year providing a decent field for school sports and a good space for soccer. Without the Summerstage,
which offers up a great and varied selection of free music from June through August, it might be completely ignored by many who pass it. Yet in the summer it screams to life with the glaring sound of an international mix of music with loud applause and cheers.
Packed to capacity on a warm afternoon or evening in the summer the Rumsey offers great diversity in its shows. Brazilian, African and Latin music festivals have been extremely popular as well as the many well-known music artists and ensembles that send waves of music into the night.
