This field just south of the Rumsey Playfield and adjacent to the Mall was set aside following
World War I to honor the 590 fallen heroes of the
307th Infantry. Trees were planted with specific
dedication stones honoring the men whose names
were inscribed on the bronze memorial plaque.
This field often goes unnoticed by those who pass
through and even by those who frequent the area.
It is, however, imperative that we never forget the
gallant men who gave their lives for the cause of
world freedom.
