Frederick Law Olmsted 1822-1903
b. Hartford, Connecticut d. Brookline, Mass.
The south end of the Mall is punctuated by
a memorial garden, created in 1972 to
memorialize the 150th anniversary of the
birth of Frederick Law Olmsted the visionary
who conceived and built Central Park. Its
striking planting of these well placed varieties
along with its satisfying geometry make it a
special tribute to the man who fought for his
ideals and left us a most incredible legacy.
